Servicing your VW Bay Window bus can see like a bit of chore in the excitement of the new spring season all ready upon us. Often there seems too much to do in terms of Volkswagen Camper meets, events and the inevitable road tips that are planned for the summer, to think about getting ones hands dirty, serving your cherished Volkswagon bus. Some or even most of us will take our cherished bus to a non Volkswagen garage to have it serviced, get charged through the nose for what's essentially no more than a regular car service. Even Volkswagen appointed garages will only undertake a standard vehicle service and not consider the unique requirements of a 30+ year old air-cooled Volkswagen Bus.



Connect the manifold gauge set as discussed above. Connect the yellow hose to the can tap valve and windshield repair seat (turn clockwise) the valve. Close the blue gauge on the manifold gauge set. Open the valve on the can tap valve. Slowly open the valve on the blue or "low-side" gauge and let the refrigerant flow from the refrigerant can into the system until you see a reading of 60psi on the "low-side" gauge. TIP: Placing the refrigerant can in a pan of hot water will allow the vapor refrigerant to enter the A/C system quicker. WARNING: Do not invert the refrigerant can. Doing so will allow liquid refrigerant to enter the system resulting in a ruined compressor.

If you own an older B building, the mechanicals for a building can be a major expense. Besides the roof, you may need to repair or replace the HVAC systems, water heaters, fixtures, lighting, as well as all of the floor coverings and cabinetry.

A windshield repair, when done correctly, is the safe choice. But not all damage is repairable. For as many types of debris that exist to damage your windshield, there are as many types of chips and cracks that can result. Some of the most common types of chips have been named.

If you do have scratches on fix auto glass repair the surface it may be better to have headlight restoration specialist handle it but some people have successfully used an electric sander to gently smooth away some superficial scratches. This technique can cause more damage than intended if you aren't careful and is not suggested for novices.

If a rock hits your windshield while you are driving when it is already cracked, this can cause it to shatter too and you will not be able to see the road. Dings and scratches generally won't do this but there is always that risk factor that you have to be cautious about.

Because both rear door windows were inoperable, I assumed that there must have been some other electrical glitch, such as a bad control module. Well, you know what they say about assuming. I did a little internet research and found that the General Module controlled the locks and windows and that sometimes, the relays go bad and need replacing. I found some relays for the General Module and ordered them for $75. They arrived a few days later.

Convertible tops last about eight years. Check that the cover is not in contact with the frame which could cause damage. If you can see scratches on the rear window, visibility will be bad. Also a crease in the window could hinder the view. The crease can be prevented by placing a towel in the fold, so the window can not be compressed.
